FEBRUARY 2020: MATT is your Selector

Matt.jpg

This is Matt and he has been with us from the beginning. We have grown together and championed one another along the way. Matt is a true friend and that’s why we are honored to have Matt as our monthly selector for February.

Matt hails from Miami, FLA where his incendiary salsa moves are legendary. He is a lover of the cinema and is especially fond of the John Wick Trilogy.

In the beer world Matt is a fixer. He puts us, and you, in touch with the finest products that Ajax/Turner has to offer. He brings us great stuff from Madtree, Belle Meade, Wicked Weed, Blackstone, Tattersall, and 3 Floyd’s.

We treasure this fine example of personhood and so should you. Check out Matt’s playlist for the month!

HI WIRE BREWING: S’mores Porter

CAN ABV 6% IBUs 20

Hi-Wire Brewing S’mores Porter is part of the brewery’s Seasonal lineup and was developed to capture the comfort one finds when enjoying the “campfire treat” of the same name. This American Porter is brewed with chocolate, fresh vanilla, and cinnamon. This sweet and creamy treat is the “perfect cozy weather companion with its notes of graham cracker from Golden Naked Oats and Chocolate Malts.”Mmmmm….yum. I wanted to drink this description. It’s delicious. Grab one while you can.

HOT WAX 1.31.2020

This week,

Fresh from the press to your turntable!

Check out all the eclectic titles coming your way this week. Hot new wax in the new release and reissue stacks for your digging pleasure. The music of Idris Muhammad, a New Orleans native, has a flavor which has me mesmerized. The horns on the title track, Power of Soul, stir the memories of Mardi Gras parades of my youth. Powerful brass wailing down the avenue backed by a grooving drum line still gives me a chill. Horn phrases are broken up by musical sections that sonically sound as if they were lifted right off Bitches Brew. Like a great gumbo he combines a mixture of musical textures, simmering them down until they form something entirely unique. Do not sleep on this one.

The Drive By Truckers have a new record coming out this week. I’ve had the privilege of seeing them in many different settings over the years and can’t say enough great things about this band. Patterson played a solo show at a local venue years ago and I happened to be working that night. It was so cold that night, think 10 degrees in your mind, that only a handful of people made it out. He put on an amazing songwriting clinic for that small crowd, and he was a great hang before and after the set. Great folks who make great music. Grab one of these.

Megan Trainor has a new record out this week. It’s on white vinyl for you hard core Trainorheads. If you’re on the fence you may have some time to think about this one.

Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band’s Express Yourself is being reissued this week on vinyl and if you don’t know…well…you don’t know. Check out this weeks playlist for a taste. We also have some great reissues coming from Happy Mondays, Neneh Cherry, Suicidal Tendencies, and a live one from Daniel Johnston.
